silent green Open Lab #7: Shu and Frieda + GLTR Mauer

After a successful first edition in 2025, we are excited to continue silent green Open Lab – a format for Berlin-based musicians, and performance artists who are taking their first steps onto the stage.

The Mani is an experimental performance and sound research project by artistic duo Shu and Frieda that investigates how language is engineered, preserved, and altered as a cultural product. Shu, born in Taiwan(1995), and Frieda, born in Hong Kong (1992).

GLTR Mauer makes intuitive, genre-fluid music influenced by shoegaze, video game soundtracks, hardcore punk, hyperpop, and ’90s house.

1st part:
@moriaariava × @tonboq present live ambient soundscape drift evolving together with hypnotic kaleidoscopic video work by NADA (@orie_ishii × @ryoishio).

2nd part:
For the second part, @mattiaprete_visions joins @moriaariava and @tonboq for an improvised live performance where electronic and organic sounds intertwine, accompanied by video work by Sinclair Brazier @shanzhaisunbaby using bird-watching footage by Westley Hennigh Palermo @distrustful_dinos.

Maresz + Del Gesù + The Midnight Audience

Maresz is a Kazakh-Polish singer now based in Berlin. Previously known for a series of dancefloor fillers and minimalist alt-pop tunes (via Cititrax NYC), Maresz’s current chapter began when she started to work with guitar-meets-electronics wizard RIP Swirl. Flirting with the blurry edges of Slow Core and Indie bliss over steadily unfolding beats, her music is about hazy dreamscapes, slowed-down bangers with a seductive edge.

Del Gesù, the duo of ASIA and juaki pesudo, was formed in 2022 between Barcelona, Athens, and Paris and is named after the violin maker Guarneri del Gesù. Of classical heart and strong visual craft, they record within the home chamber. In 2025, they set forth PERGO under Sega Bodega’s Ambient Tweets, marking their first offering unto the modern ear.

The Midnight Audience works at the edge of thresholds and tension. Sound as a space you move through, their narratives instigate against both memory and the unfamiliar. Rhythm and melody seduce and guide to a blurring landscape. Psychological noise scores the boundaries of sound The Audience encounters and invites.

Sander Manse — listening event / release party for the debut EP Languages

Languages is the debut EP of Dutch, Berlin-based artist Sander Manse. It embraces the capacity of sound to turn you inwards. Harmonising and cutting up samples of wind and string instruments sourced from found sound libraries with digital waveforms, these seven songs follow their own eccentric logic and range from intricate collages of glitch-pop to stuttering, fuzzy loops and melancholic noise. Born in Nagoya Japan, dancer, movement director, and co-founder of Motimaru Dance Company. From 2005 he had been studying butoh with Yoshito Ohno, son of Kazuo Ohno and worked as his assistant. After 2010 he has started field work researches of local and traditional dances in Japan, India, Nepal, Spain, and Bali, studied Balinese dance with Agun Anom Putra, I Made Djimat, and Ida Bagus Oka Wirjana, in search of universal principle of movements and dance. Since 2008, he hasbeen immersed in the practice and study of Eastern contemplative traditions, particularly following the Tibetan traditions, and bridging between contemporary art practices and the age old wisdom. He has been performing and teaching in: Venezia Biennale 2010, 9th International Choreography Competition "No Ballet”, International Dance Festival Lucky Trimmer 2016, Hildesheim University, Leipzig University, Hasselt University, Academy of Media Arts Cologne, etc., Europe, Asia, Australia in over 50 cities.

Following a successful first edition in 2025, silent green Open Lab continues as a platform for Berlin-based musicians and performance artists taking their first steps onto the stage.

JKZQ is a Berlin-based duo consisting of Wang Ze-Qing and Jakob Stæterstad. Their improvisations revolve around guitar distortion and mixer feedback as central sonic elements. Through complex signal routing they blur the boundaries between analogue and digital sound worlds.

Berlin-based artist franna explores the emergence and negotiation of opposites through sound. Cassette recordings, field recordings and gentle vocals meet amplified and processed cello textures, moving between experimental pop, ambient and noise. Her live performances oscillate between structured songs and improvised soundscapes. Her debut album will be released in 2027 on the Berlin label subsidized time.

Lovecrushr is a collaborative project between New Zealand guitarist Robert Bruce and Texas-born vocalist Anna Winslow, creating intimate music that moves between experimental folk, slowcore and indie songwriting.

Psychic Liberation Night: Niloofar Asghary + Júlia Koffler

Niloofar Asghary works across sound, photography and archives. Her current practice centres on the creative potential of the no-input mixing board, using feedback and interference to generate unpredictable and multilayered sonic environments that explore the tension between structure and contingency.

Hungarian vocalist and sound artist Júlia Koffler explores voice, timbre and technology through installations, performances and spatial sound works. Using extended vocal techniques, tape and electronics, she investigates how vocal expression unfolds in space. Her debut album Ostium was released this spring on Prensa Manual.

Mutant Radio is a community platform for music and culture, streaming a diverse programme ranging from DJ mixes and live performances to interviews, conversations and educational broadcasts. With more than 90 residents and collaborations with festivals, labels, record stores and cultural institutions around the world, it has become an important meeting point for experimental music communities. Since April 2025, Mutant Radio has also operated a compact studio in Berlin.

Andrea Neumann performs on her self-developed inside piano and mixer, creating finely detailed sound worlds between acoustic resonance and electronic amplification. Composer and performer Liz Allbee explores the sonic possibilities of her self-built quadraphonic trumpet alongside electronics and voice. Georgian trio Araushavs combine vocals, guitars, oscillators and computer music, presenting music born out of long-standing friendship and collaborative theatre practice.

Licht im Klangschatten

»Licht im Klangschatten« presents instrumental chamber music, performance, electroacoustics and video art. The concert performance takes place right after a related a pop‑up exhibition.

The programme includes manipulated piano sounds, bowed guitars and an electronic cello, complemented by a resonant soprano. Kafkaesque dictators lurk through the speakers, only to be finally neutralised by a media performance. The works shown reflect nearly two decades of compositional practice that extends across all fields of time‑based arts.

Andrea Cichecki creates Synths, Sounds, and Noise that are as magical as they are modern.

Nestled in her countryside studio with her self-built modular Eurorack synthesizer, Andrea is a composer and sound artist who creates her signature sound by layering analog and digital synth waves with influences from her natural surroundings. Her soundtracks and soundscapes are immersive pieces that transcend mainstream electronic music, blending her expertise in synthesis with organic noise and textures to compose emotional, transfixing music that invites listeners into her world.

For over 20 years, Andrea Cichecki has let her passion for music lead the way, taking her through ambient, experimental, and contemporary genres. Her versatility has led her to collaborate with filmmakers and artists, bringing stories in film and art to life through sound, including the score for the critically acclaimed and award-nominated short film ´Reclaiming Dragons´. She has released over a dozen singles and EPs and her album ´Drawn Into The Edge Effect´ received a nomination on the long list of the prestigious German award ´Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik´. Alongside her recorded work, Andrea performs live as a solo artist, and as a member of an audiovisual performance project with French painter Oilhack.

The Unsmart Duo is Kai Fagashinski and Jasmine Guffond.

Kai Fagashinski is a Clarinettist, composer, performer, focused on the subtle musicality of sound and noise phenomena. As an autodidact, he has developed a personal and unorthodox voice on his instrument characterized by a distinctive multiphonic technique.

Jasmine Guffondis is an artist, composer and electronic musician investigating the intersection of sound, technology and political infrastructures through live performance, recording andinstallation. Shehasreleased solo records with the Sonic Pieces, Karl Records, Editions Mego, OOH-Sounds, and LINE Boomkat Editions labels.

Jessie Marino is a composer, performer, and media artist. Her compositions and solo performances abstract ideas drawn from all stripes of popular culture and relish in themes of the everyday. Marino’s pieces score out sound, video, story, lighting, and staging, treating each of these elements as expandable musical materials. Her recent work focuses on sound, light and fibre.

Sophie Hutchings has quietly established herself among the top tier of the world’s contemporary classical musicians, releasing eight albums and achieving over 375m streams. Based on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia, the pianist and composer has built a substantial international career, topping the UK Classical Album Charts with Echoes in the Valley, opening for luminaries like Ólafur Arnalds and Hauschka, Federico Albanese and Lambert along with being involved with a number of acclaimed films including Babyteeth and True Spirit.

Her creative momentum has been mirrored by major industry recognition, including an Australian Record Industry Association Award win for Best Classical Album in 2024, a subsequent ARIA nomination in 2025, and being named one of the Australian National Live Music Awards’ top five live instrumentalists of the year. This crossover success is highlighted by her recent March 2026 project with electronic producer Digitonal (of Max Richter’s Sleep project), which topped Apple Music playlist charts across Europe.

Two solo projects that explore the intersection of improvisation with classical and contemporary musical traditions.

Set 1: Isabel Anders: „24 IMPROVISED PRÉLUDES“
Isabel Anders is a pianist, composer, and improviser who presents a new cycle consisting of 24 Improvised Préludes for solo piano. Marked by a distinctly composed character, the music moves between classical avant-garde, late Romanticism, and Impressionism. It evokes harmonic tension and expressive intensity through ambiguity, color, and inherent tension. Pages in different colors create a framework that mirrors the character of each section. The cycle unfolds in three parts: an opening, a central section, and a final group of preludes. From the central section onward, the atmosphere becomes increasingly intense. Rhythmic pulse and sharp accentuation emerge—urgent, vivid, and dramatically expressive. The Project is strongly inspired by the composer Alexander Scriabin.

Set 2: Julia Biłat „Improvisation in the context of a contemporary XX and XXI classical Cello repertoire“
Julia Biłat moves with the cello at the intersection of improvisation, composition, and performance. In her solo work, she expands the instrument through voice and movement, developing intense musical forms, in which sound and performative presence become inseparable. In this new project, she combines her work with the 20th-century cello repertoire, building a bridge between improvisation, performance and the tradition of european classical music. The improvisational language of this project is inspired by composers such as Penderecki, Dutilleux, Cassadó, and Lutosławski. By uniting her various influences, the project not only revives a fading tradition but also contributes to the ongoing renaissance of the cello as an instrument open to new approaches, techniques, and styles—positioning improvisation as an essential and living part of its repertoire.
