VISTAS by KARI WATSON & KATINKA KLEIJN
Kari Watson - electronics Katinka Kleijn - cello VISTAS, a live performance featuring the visionary sounds of Kari Watson and Katinka Kleijn. An experiment in scale and vantage point, VISTAS explores two seemingly contrasting sound sources: the acoustic cello and the eurorack analog modular synthesizer. Electrical circuits and metal strings warp and weft, rewiring and restringing a panoramic sonic tapestry. curated by Paul Clouvel for Elektramusic Berlin Tickets : https://fr.ra.co/events/2334882 Website : https://elektramusic.eu/events/vistas-kari-watson-katinka-kleijn-hybrid-series-3-january-24th-2000-studio-db-berlin/ Doors 19:00 / Start 20:00 (promptly) |

Plea for Peace"
1) Wolfgang Schwabe – guqin solo 2) Duo Roman Stolyar & Gerhard Uebele – melodicas, flutes, toy piano, bongos, thunder drums, gongs, violin, zither, bike horn, microkorg synthesizer In ancient China, playing the guqin was considered a path to self-cultivation, a tool for calming the mind. The gentle, delicate sound of this stringed instrument was only played in private settings, never at public events. In this respect, it fits very well into the small, intimate Maeng Museum. Roman & Gerhard dedicate their work to playfulness, communication, instant composition and of course to the beauty of little instruments. The resulting music can be heard as a "plea for peace“ in disturbing violent times – advocating life instead death and destruction. free admission, donations welcome www.maengmuseum.de |

HELICOPTER: Camatta/ Fidezius/ Van Huffel
Peter Van Huffel - saxophone, effects Roland Fidezius - e - bass, effects Simon Camatta - drums Helicopter is a high-energy trio that soars at the crossroads of jazz, punk, free improvisation, and raw sonic chaos. Featuring Peter Van Huffel (saxophones), Roland Fidezius (bass), and Simon Camatta (drums), the band fuses Berlin’s underground fire with the dynamic creative scene of western Germany’s NRW region. Born from a spontaneous meeting at the Rabbit Hole Theater (Essen) in January 2024, Helicopter is an explosive collision of melody, noise, groove, and fearless improvisation. With Peter and Roland—longtime co-conspirators in the thrash-jazz trio Gorilla Mask—pushing their sound into uncharted sonic terrain, and Simon, a driving force in NRW’s avant-garde scene, injecting his distinctive rhythmic intensity, the result is an unpredictable ride—sometimes turbulent, always electrifying. https://petervanhuffel.com/ https://rolandfidezius.de/ https://simoncamatta.yolasite.com/ |

Soundwatch Bonus Tracks: Live Light Painting & Music
Light Painting: Katrin & Joanna, Music: Marco Brosolo In her award-winning films such as “Concrete Gold”, “1917 – The Real October”, and “Johnny & Me”, director Katrin Rothe has developed new forms of documentary storytelling using animation. As a creative lab complementing her filmmaking practice, Rothe improvises hand-drawn animation to music together with Joanna Kawicka. Using the Tagtool app, they create live moving images using only their fingers and an iPad. This is audiovisual jamming, without AI and without pre-produced image sequences. For Italian Berliner musician Marco Brosolo, film is a recurring source of inspiration. He regularly composes and performs contemporary, often electronic film scores, and his album “Nubi” is a tribute to filmmaker and poet Pier Paolo Pasolini. Soundwatch regularly presents audiovisual performances and the practice of their makers. This event takes place as part of transmediale/CTM Vorspiel. |

Kayu Nakada - Circuit Boards
Take out the circuit boards from some synthesizers and other electronic musical instruments, and use methods such as short circuits caused by the random stacking of these bare boards to perform and demonstrate. http://www.kayunakada.com/info.html Kris Limbach - Film and Tape Like a primitive arte povera form of expanded cinema, Kris Limbach performs an irreversible, unrepeatable movie. www.krislimbach.com Wojtek Kurek & Olga Balińska - percussion, electronics, paper & movement Wojtek Kurek and Olga Balińska are a duo that explores various forms of narration. They unfold stories inspired by asian scenic forms, ´80s subcultures, contemporary electroacoustic music, raw movement language and free improvisation. They create their own performative language where both the visual and audio layers are minimalistic and precise. Everyday gestures, trans and improvisation coloured with humor are the leitmotif of their performances. They structure a plot being aware of the role of the dynamics and tension between pause and action. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpUB1enpu_Q doors at 19:30, music sharp at 20:00 Sign up for our newsletter: newsletter@richten25.de |

SET 1:
SET 2: Lothar Ohlmeier - bass clarinet Isambard Khroustaliov - modular synthesizer & computer Rudi Fischerlehner - drums The electroacoustic trio of Lothar Ohlmeier, Rudi Fischerlehner and Isambard Khroustaliov came about, without fanfare or design, through mutual friendship, empathy and curiosity in each other’s music. Since 2019, the band has released two albums on the English label Not Applicable: “Hypertide over Kiribati” and “In the Gloaming.” Imagine a conversation between friends unfolds as the day fades. No one gets up to turn the lights on, instead, they revel in the spell twilight weaves and the quieting world around them. Echos and remains of the day are filtered through this new state of being; senses on edge, wits sharpened as what is visible recedes. The surroundings that had once seemed so absolute, rigid and certain dissolve and unravel in a flow of allusions and enquiry. Thoughts and actions, adrift once more, surf the infinite flux of space and time. https://not-applicable.bandcamp.com/album/in-the-gloaming https://www.not-applicable.org/?page_id=3208 |

Simon Rose - saxophone
Matthias Müller - trombone Michael Griener - drums Michael Griener – drums (1968, Germany) After his early years in Hannover with Günter Christmann, he established himself—through stylistic openness, sonic precision, and a deep understanding of the jazz tradition—as a distinctive voice in European jazz. Together with bassist Jan Roder, he forms one of the most striking rhythm sections of the Berlin scene; he gained international recognition with the trio featuring Ellery Eskelin and Christian Weber. Since 2002, he has taught jazz drums at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden. Griener was awarded “Most Creative Soloist” at the Neuer Deutscher Jazzpreis in Mannheim. Credits include his playing on The Brutalist (Oscar 2025). His discography includes over 90 releases. Matthias Müller (DE) Since moving to Berlin in 2004 he has played regularly with internationally recognized improvisers such as John Edwards, Mark Sanders, Tomeka Reid, George Lewis, Johannes Bauer, Jeb Bishop, Tobias Delius, Olaf Rupp, Sofia Jernberg, Eve Risser, John Butcher, Nate Wooley, Clayton Thomas, Michael Vorfeld, Axel Dörner, and many more. He is a member of “Splitter Orchester“, and “German-French Jazzensemble“ directed by Albert Mangelsdorff. Müller is also active in contemporary music, writing music for theatre and dance. He’s toured in 5 continents and released over 50 CDs including a number on his own label „MaMüMusic“. His playing style is characterised by an extraordinary range of unconventional techniques which stretch the boundaries of sound and improvisation. Simon Rose (UK/DE) is a musician-composer, researcher and writer. In London, he was initially know for being leader of the well-regarded improvising trio badland (initially with Mark Sanders drums then Steve Noble, Simon Fell double bass). A recognised baritone saxophonist with a main interest in open improvisation he appears on over forty music releases and has performed regularly as a soloist and in numerous collaborations in Europe and North America. He also frequently performs in interdisciplinary settings with dancers, visual artists and others. He holds a PhD from Glasgow Caledonian University and has authored two books: ‘The lived experience of improvisation: in music, learning and life’ (2017) and ‘Relational Improvisation: Music, Dance and Contemporary Art’ (2024). |

35th session of "Neu Berlin Institute of Improvised Music":
At the celebrated Kühlspot The I n s t i t u t e is hosting a new improvisational session. We welcome you! In this case the opening group will be: Dima Svist - electronics Ali Onur Olgun - tenor saxophone Peter Balhar - drums Zeynep Ayse Hatipoglu - cello After the opening group there will be put together sessions by the curator. Doors :19:00h, Concert starts 19:30h Mission: By bringing together different practices of improvisation, we strive to open up the often isolated situation of music scenes to each other and prevent a structural conservatism that exists in the field of improvisation. We focus on connecting and learning from all different genres and subsidiaries. Encouraging people from different musical backgrounds and contexts to interact with each other and create a curated framework for immediate composition in a live setting. Because we believe that improvisation can mean lifelong musical learning, we want to view its ongoing practice and performance as an opportunity for the development of ones "voice" and to create a regular offering for musicians* to keep trying themselves out in this laboratory and working community. We hope that in this way we can contribute to spreading this common respect for each other and the different approaches to improvisation in all of our respective "scenes" and enable fresh perspectives. The idea is not new, of course, but we want to perceive it anew. In our case we take the name away from an institution that was founded in Vienna in 2005 under the name "The Neu New York/Vienna Institute of Improvised Music" by the now deceased saxophonist Marco Eneidi and still exists as "Monday Improvisers Session" in Vienna. A warm invitation to you, if you feel addressed, and if you want to join this process as a listener! |

Mastery x MONOM präsentieren: Quantum Sound
Part One: The programme opens with a 60 minute holographic listening experience - the continuous mix Quantum Sound Journey. Opening with Bliss Code 000 - a 15 minute piece where sound healing instrumentals meet modular synthesis, blending into ambient and transcendental tracks by Hannah Holland, Djrum, Alessandro Cortini, Wata Igarashi, Manami, Jennifer Loveless & Ruthlss. An all encompassing audio experience, spatialised in 4DSOUND by MONOM. Emerging from this all-encompassing audio experience, we bring you live performances by Monom co-founder William Russell, with his surreal live show blending piano with the sounds of natural phenomena, followed by London-based artist Ruthlss and her live set fusing electronics and piano. Part Two: After a short interval, attendees will join for a playback listening session of ‘Jon Hopkins – Embodiment Breathing’ (with Fearne Cotton). This twenty-minute breathwork piece opens the vinyl edition of the album, and will be spatialized by MONOM in 4DSOUND, marking a key energetic moment in the night. When the audience emerges from the embodying breathwork practice, Jon Hopkins takes over with a longform piano improvisation, with Maddie Ashman on cello, live effects and vocals, and Leo Abrahams on guitar. With the breathwork having prepared both the performers and the listeners, the music will be experienced in a more open, unboundaried state. For listening with eyes closed… Program SHOW ONE: 14:30 - Doors Open 15:30 - Listening Experience: Houndstooth x Quantum Sound Journey 16:30 - Live Performances: Ruthlss & William Russell (30 minute Interval) 17:40 - Playback: Jon Hopkins - Embodiment Breathing (with Fearne Cotton) 18:00 - Live Performance: Jon Hopkins piano improvisation with guest ensemble 18:40 - Close *Spatialized in 4DSOUND by MONOM Studios SHOW TWO: 19:30 - Doors Open 20:30 - Listening Experience: Houndstooth x Quantum Sound Journey 21:30 - Live Performances: Ruthlss & William Russell (30 min Interval) 22:40 - Playback: Jon Hopkins - Embodiment Breathing (with Fearne Cotton) 23:00 - Live Performance: Jon Hopkins piano improvisation with guest ensemble 23:30 - Close *Spatialized in 4DSOUND by MONOM Studios |

27.02.26 - UMIAK: Karbacher/ Moser/ Zimmerlin + Neidorf/ Park
Set 1: UMIAK Eva-Maria Karbacher: saxophon Christian Moser: oud Alfred Zimmerlin: violoncello [...] the album’s seven tracks are a masterclass in navigating the delicate balance between structure and spontaneity, silence and sound, serenity and chaos. Irrlicht: This is music of elusive, flickering brilliance: light that draws you into the unknown, where you might just lose yourself but perhaps also find something profound [...] the group’s ethos: to explore without fear, yet with a deep sensitivity to each other’s musical gestures. (Vito Camaretto for chaindlk) Set 2: Neidorf/ Park Han-earl park: electric guitar Sara Neidorf: drums https://wideearrecords.bandcamp.com/album/irrlicht https://www.busterandfriends.com/ https://saraneidorf.com/ |
