Workshop 12-17h.

Musician, writer Simon Rose and dancer, choreographer Ingo Reulecke co-lead this workshop is for professional musicians and dancers, artists as well as those who are simply curious to explore. The work is based on improvisation, collaboration and reflection through which we build and extend diverse knowledge and skills. (Workshop In English and German according to need.) Workshop participants have the opportunity to perform as an ensemble in the series The Imaginary Museum #4 that evening .

DISQUIET Workshop #3

Siegmar Zacharias: Listening in Complexity

How do we stay in relation when different realities, needs, histories and griefs collide? How can we listen without rushing toward agreement, resolution or repair?

Listening in Complexity is a four-hour embodied workshop combining the somacoustic practice of Practicing Futures While Grieving with tools from conflict transformation and decolonising Nonviolent Communication. At its centre is a binaural listening session composed through voice work and intimate spatial recordings, enhancing somacoustic listening: hearing not only with the ears, but through vibration, sensation, proximity and the whole body.

We begin with the body, listening to sound, sensation, grief and the many things that can be present at once. From there, we move toward relational listening and conflict. Using and troubling tools from Nonviolent Communication, we explore how to distinguish what happened from the stories we tell about it; how to listen for feelings, needs and values; and how to recognise the histories and power relations that enter a conversation before we do.

Listening here does not mean agreement, neutrality or endless availability. It can include boundaries, refusal, confrontation and stepping away. Rather than making conflict disappear, we ask what becomes possible when we stay in relation without collapsing differences.

weed420 is an experimental sound-collage collective from Valencia, Venezuela, exploring memory, politics, and the experience of uprooting. Blending noise, lo-fi, and maximalist vaporwave, they fuse somber cloud-rap and ambient textures with 2000s perreo and salsa. Through guitars, synths, and processed vocals, they connect chopped ‘n’ screwed trap with deep-rooted Latin American influences.

Tufi is Nicolas Castelli´s electronic music project. Born in Buenos Aires and based in Berlin, he works as a DJ, producer, and sound designer/audio engineer. His formation in hardcore, punk and heavy metal carries an underlying folklore, an inherited identity that resurfaces in his sound through experimental, non-linear territory and traces of South American percussion, as an ongoing exploration of identity, politics, and spirituality.

Ensemble Nist-Nah + Shouji Hara

Ensemble Nist-Nah was formed in 2019 as a hybrid Gamelan / percussion ensemble, led by Nantes-based Australian drummer and percussionist Will Guthrie. The music of Ensemble Nist-Nah is influenced and inspired by traditional musics from Indonesia and gong based musics from South east Asia. Ensemble Nist-Nah develops out of Guthrie’s extensive work with pitched percussion and resonant metals over the years, using gongs, singing bowls and bells as melodic and harmonic material, alongside polyrhythmic / poly-metric rhythmic possibilities.

Bringing together 8 musicians coming from eclectic and mixed backgrounds, Nist-Nah hosts a wealth of experience and expertise, and also regularly invites guests such as Jennifer Torrence, Sarah Hennies, Toma Gouband and Jessika Kenney. In 2024 the group enters into it’s second phase, bringing together younger Nantes based musicians, a new group and new music to go with it.

Ollín, the Nahuatl word for movement, is a live performance for ceramic instruments, performers, and electronics. Rather than accompanying movement with sound, Ollín treats the body as a generator. As the performers move, they activate the hydraulic systems inside a series of ceramic instruments, causing their internal whistles to sound. These vibrations are captured with microphones and transformed into an evolving sonic landscape, composed live by the performers.

Inspired by the idea of spiral-shaped time, the performance program brings together live acts whose themes interweave body, memory, sound, and production of knowledge.

Gabriele Günther: „Epiphanies“

Start; 20:00: A reading from her books "This Could Be You Composing Me" and" Small Sky Falling", as well as from a new manuscript. followed by a poetry and music performance featuring German-Canadian poet and visual artist Gabriele DR Guenther and four invited musicians:

Guenther’s poems deal with a broad spectrum of themes, mundane ones as well as those that evoke small moments of insight – from lies and toothbrushes to memories of childhood moments in Japan – connected with exciting varia of sounds and rhythms. According to the American poet Karen C. Herceg, “There is a stark, necessary brutality to these poems.” Guenther has already worked with Allbee, Gratkowski and Kaufmann in other projects such as the Trokaan Project (including at the Berlin JazzFest). Released on CD are Loitering, Interrupted with Achim Kaufmann and 13 Asperities with the Trokaan Project. Her audio drama From the Shadows of a Journey was premiered in Vancouver, Canada, in 2007 with the group “Talking Pictures” and Achim Kaufmann, among others, as composer.

The Tag der Clubkultur / Clubcommission festival week takes place across Berlin under this year’s motto STAY CORE. Clubs, collectives and initiatives ask what lies at the core of club culture and how it can endure as costs rise, spaces disappear and pressure increases. As part of the festival week, Kühlspot Social Club e.V. presents a three-day program with remarkable authors and musicians from October 8–10. In response to STAY CORE, Kühlspot focuses on attentive perception and openness, which we see as essential to artistic and social encounters in a time shaped by information overload, populism and the simplification of complex realities.

There will be a break between the sets. After the reading or at the end of the evening, the audience is invited to an open exchange.

Touching Sound is dedicated to the connection between free musical improvisation and improvisational dance practices, and to the question of how sound and movement respond to, influence and transform one another in real time. The evening begins with a reading of a new text by Zsolt Sőrés on shared perceptual, physical and intuitive processes in musical and bodily improvisation. This will be followed by a performance with Sőrés and invited performers, as well as an open exchange with the audience.

Simon Rose presents themes from his book Relational Improvisation: Music, Dance and Contemporary Art (Routledge, 2024), which explores creative exchange between artistic disciplines through improvisation and connections between improvised music, dance and visual art. In keeping with the book’s relational theme, there will be space for the perspectives and experiences of those present, as well as exchange and conversation. This will be followed by a performance by Simon Rose with invited guest artists.

Ryoko Ono is a Japanese saxophonist, flutist, composer, and recording artist who specializes in improvised music and works for saxophone and electronics. She performs across a wide range of genres, including blues, jazz, progressive rock, noise, and avant-garde music.

Hanno Leichtmann is a sound artist and curator from Berlin known for his influential contributions to the electronic music scene and his festival curations. His work spans various genres, from experimental electronics to ambient and minimal techno. His artistic vision is characterised by subtle soundscapes, delicate rhythms and a penchant for sound exploration.

Sergeant makes music like editing an erratic film: cutting, splicing, and reassembling sounds into a whirlwind of unexpected turns. The trio, filmmaker/composer Benjamin Cools, search-singing actor Ferre Marnef, and sonic surfer Geraldine Vanspauwen, strike a delicate balance between post-punk’s jagged edges, krautrock’s relentless drive, and a pop energy that keeps your heart racing.

Die Musik dieses Ensembles gleicht einer Expedition ins Ungewisse – dadaistisch gefärbt, mit einem Augenzwinkern, voller Humor und gleichzeitig von tiefer Ernsthaftigkeit getragen. Gemeinsam begeben sie sich auf eine Entdeckungsreise, bei der Komposition und Improvisation nicht Gegensätze, sondern ineinander verschlungene Pfade sind. Ihre Sprache ist sowohl vokalistisch als auch instrumental, ein Chor aus Stimmen und Klängen und Rhythmen, die pulsieren, harmonisieren, melodiesieren. Nichts bleibt linear: Linien meandrieren, brechen auf, verlieren sich und tauchen an anderer Stelle wieder auf – wie Flüsse, die unerwartete Landschaften zeichnen.

Es geht ihnen um das Unmittelbare, das Rohe, das Direkte. Ein „in your face?“ – und doch ein offenes Fragezeichen, ein ironisches Spiel mit Erwartungen. Komplexität wird hier nicht als akademische Hürde verstanden, sondern als ein Geflecht, das Hörer:innen hineinzieht, fesselt, herausfordert. KompleX – Xelpmok – rückwärts gedacht, vorwärts empfunden, wie ein Spiegel, der ein verzerrtes, aber ehrliches Bild zurückwirft. Die Musik sucht keinen Kompromiss, sondern Begegnung. Sie öffnet Räume, in denen alles gleichzeitig sein darf: fragmentarisch und rund, fragil und massiv, absurd und doch vertraut. Ein Klang-Kosmos, der seine Zuhörenden nicht einfach nur unterhält, sondern sie mitnimmt – auf eine Reise, die ebenso poetisch wie unberechenbar ist.

Was entsteht, wenn traditionelle taiwanische Instrumente auf die europäische Streichquartett-Tradition treffen? Am 15. Oktober 2026 bringen das preisgekrönte taiwanische Ensemble 3Peoplemusic und das Berliner Sonar Quartett unter der musikalischen Leitung von Yuän Chang im Kühlhaus Berlin zwei musikalische Welten in einen zeitgenössischen Dialog.

silent green presents

Andriy K. and Tharim Cornelisse return to the Kuppelhalle walls to present their newest collaboration, titled DUST. The performance centers around the concept of fatal disappearance, the contrast between what is present one moment and gone the next. Both artists have crafted their own distinctive universes, each rooted in a textural language of sound and image. For DUST, they unite these realms to build a highly detailed digital, but organic world. Based on the performance, an audio release will follow in the coming year.

Rather than settling into a fixed aesthetic, mu tate moves between styles with a distinctive touch, approaching genre as a language rather than a framework. Melodies surface only to dissolve again, at times interrupted by abrupt cuts and shifts, while familiar imagery takes on new meaning through changes in texture and rhythm.

Psychic Liberation Night: Andrea Pensado + HMOT + bela

Andrea Pensado is a sound artist, educator and concert organizer. She uses voice and hybrid electronics to make her music. The approach to both programming and performance is highly intuitive. Occasionally, the combination of the performance situation, the irrational use of the voice and the inherent uncertainty of improvisations contributes to discoveries of unknown places in her mind.

Sattar Stas Shärifulla, aka HMOT, is a Basel-based artist, composer, and researcher studying how listening shapes identity and memory. Born and raised in Eastern Siberia, with Yılan Bashqort ancestry (the “Bashkirs” of the Yelan clan), he explores the auditory nature of Northern and Central Asian autochthonous cultures, where listening and sounding have historically been more important than writing.

bela (they/them) is a South Korean musician and performance artist based between Berlin and Prague. bela uses guttural vocals and feedback to build texture and resonance. Conceptually, their work often adopts an autobiographical voice that courses through lived experiences, lineage, and transcendence.

Nadja combines dark soundscapes with atmospheric cinema. The name and musical aesthetic of the project are inspired, among other things, by Michael Almereyda’s surreal vampire film Nadja (1994). Originally founded in Toronto and based in Berlin for more than ten years, the project is known for its live soundtracks, in which films are reinterpreted through Nadja’s distinctive doomgaze sound. On the occasion of the 4K restoration of Nadja, the band now returns to one of its early inspirations and develops a new live soundtrack created specifically for the film.

Sophie Hutchings has quietly established herself among the top tier of the world’s contemporary classical musicians, releasing eight albums and achieving over 375m streams. Based on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia, the pianist and composer has built a substantial international career, topping the UK Classical Album Charts with Echoes in the Valley, opening for luminaries like Ólafur Arnalds and Hauschka, Federico Albanese and Lambert along with being involved with a number of acclaimed films including Babyteeth and True Spirit.

Her creative momentum has been mirrored by major industry recognition, including an Australian Record Industry Association Award win for Best Classical Album in 2024, a subsequent ARIA nomination in 2025, and being named one of the Australian National Live Music Awards’ top five live instrumentalists of the year. Acephalic Headspace pres. ladr ache + Lésions Graves Sextet plays Julius Eastman

As a Sextet, Lésions Graves will perform their newest endeavour, a composition by Julius Eastman, re-arranged for four electric guitars and drums. Composed according to Eastman´s "organic principle," this music unfolds through gradual transformation of recurring musical material. Its sketch-like score invites extensive interpretation, creating an intense, open-ended experience for performers and listeners alike.

Julius Eastman (1940–1990) was an African-American composer who fused minimalism with political provocation, challenging the conventions of white classical music. His works foregrounded themes of racism and homophobia, while blending minimalism with free jazz, gospel, and No Wave.

ladr ache, a six-piece collective hailing from Brussels (Belgium), combining polyphonic singing with hypnotic rhythms, is one of a kind and a hidden treasure in the leftfield of experimental music. This is music that immerses in raw punk energy, where pounding drums clash with buzzing drones, mechanical pulses, amplified objets and serial chanting.

At the start of the evening, the video-loop “Flicker Holes” by Tim Tetzner will be projected onto the dome above the audience’s heads.

Bassist and TRYON founder Kellen Mills moves between experimental jazz, rock, and large-ensemble composition. Pianist Rieko Okuda draws on free jazz and electroacoustic experimentation, with collaborations ranging from Marshall Allen to Axel Dörner. Saxophonist Peter Van Huffel, known for Gorilla Mask and Callisto, brings jazz into contact with heavy music and electronics. Drummer Joe Hertenstein connects Berlin and New York’s improvising scenes, with projects including his trio with Michael Moore and Greg Cohen.
Shared history, different instincts, and no agreed destination. Any resemblance to a composition will be investigated.

Faitiche returns to silent green to present two solo acoustic sets: Ulla performs their first ever set with acoustic instruments only. Martin Brandlmayr presents a new electroacoustic work within a spatially distributed ensemble of percussion instruments.

Ulla is a Berlin-based musician/composer renowned for crafting intricate and resonant ambient music—characterized by a vaporous blend of gliding electronics and electroacoustics, offering intimate and spectral soundscapes.

Martin Brandlmayr works in the fields between improvisation and composition and on the intersection of electronic and acoustic soundworlds. As a drummer he is recognized for his distinctive style combining experimental methods and extended techniques with groove elements. Since the mid-90s he has explored hidden sounds and tonal aspects on the instrument, resulting in a particular way of playing characterized by precision both rhythmically and sonically.

Seit seiner Gründung im Jahr 2016 begeistert das Ensemble Discoveries mit regelmäßigen Konzertaufführungen und Uraufführungen. Das interdisziplinäres Konzertprojekt beleuchtet Schlaf als kulturelles, gesellschaftliches und politisches Phänomen. Musik, Performance und Wissenschaft
verbinden sich zu einem Abend zwischen Erschöpfung, Kontrolle, Imagination und Körperrhythmen. Werke von Kaija Saariaho, Helmut Lachenmann, Milica Djordjević, Jessie Marino und Charlie Haden treten dabei in Dialog mit einer neuen, von wissenschaftlicher Forschung inspirierten Komposition von Peter Gahn.
