Complex behaviors, whether in feedback systems, chaotic circuits, social systems and/or computer programs are fascinating objects of study. The Society for Nontrivial Pursuits (students, alumni and associates of the class Generative Art / Computational Art at UdK Berlin) explores the possibility spaces of such systems for experimental performance. They design, build and program their own audio/visual performance systems based on a variety of devices, sensors, analog electronics, and software synthesis, and use them in extremely diverse projects, often intended for performance contexts.

JE SUIS IN THE KITCHEN
Audio-Video Work

Sound Portraits #16: Pauline Oliveros
http://spektrumberlin.de/events/detail/sound-portraits-16-pauline-oliveros.html

Doors: 19:30 / Start time: 20:00

Sound Portraits is a series of listening sessions, curated by Doron Sadja, focusing on the work of iconic composers who have paved the way for contemporary electronic music. After a short introduction of each artist´s life and work, we will listen to a selection of excerpts and complete works from the artist’s repertoire. Besides providing an opportunity to introduce these seminal artists to a new audience, the Sound Portraits series also offers an open forum to engage in group listening in a quiet atmosphere.

Tonight we celebrate the life and work of Pauline Oliveros, one of the most influential composers of the 20th and 21st century, who passed away just last week.

VALERIO TRICOLI
BEATRICE DILLON
THEO BURT

A night of sound sculpture and electronic composition.

Italian composer Valerio Tricoli draws on music concrete and electroacoustic music to explore memory and self. Half-heard snatches of speech, radio, ambient sound and other bits of ephemera are processed and blasted apart, creating eerie and almost theatrical compositions.

With a background in contemporary composition, Beatrice Dillon creates music that resists easy categorisation. A restless and eclectic producer, she has created everything from thoughtful electronic ruminations to miniatures for percussion and sampler, while elsewhere she uses the format of club music to create decidedly non-club pieces.

Completing the bill, York artist Theo Burt makes playful and powerful electronic music. His album Gloss, recorded in 2009 and released this year on Lorenzo Senni’s Presto!? imprint, sees him rearrange and loop old Casio synth sounds, resulting in unexpected curiosities and bizarrely emotive music.

YORGOS DIMITRIADIS SOLO+ FABRIC TRIO // IMPROVISED MUSIC

1. YORGOS DIMITRIADIS SOLO a "drums and microphones" solo performance

MELODIE & MELOS // aktuelle Kammermusik
Lieder und Solowerke
Thomas Busch & Andreas Bär
aktuelle Kammermusik
Melodies are the initiator of unfathomable mind movement. In order to leave this effect not only to the Hit-world, Bär uses it for his fine chamber music.
